Príncipe Real
Style and great atmosphere in the heart of Lisbon.
Príncipe Real
The Príncipe Real neighborhood was once a quiet residential enclave tucked behind the livelier Bairro Alto. But a few years ago it began to transform into the perfect setting for Lisbon residents who craved more art, more international cuisine, more design, and more variety.
It remains a peaceful neighborhood with a touch of exclusivity, but now with more atmosphere, more charm, and more life.

It has three main green spaces: the Príncipe Real Garden, the Jardim Alfredo Keil – better known as Praça da Alegria (Plaza of Joy) – and the Botanical Garden of the University of Lisbon.

Príncipe Real Garden is the most visited, featuring a children's playground, a café with a terrace, and a kiosk. Every Saturday morning there is an organic market.

The name Príncipe Real honors the firstborn son of Queen Maria II. And although there are no palaces along these streets, there are beautiful house façades that once belonged to well-to-do Lisbon families.
