Fado Museum
A tribute to fado and its lovers
Fado Museum
The Fado Museum in Lisbon celebrates the exceptional value of fado as a symbol of the city, and showcases its deep roots in the country's tradition and cultural history.
It is located in Alfama, one of the Lisbon neighborhoods that breathes Fado from sunrise to sunset.

What to See at the Fado Museum
The museum, open since 1998, features a permanent exhibition of works related to fado, musical instruments, sheet music, and even costumes belonging to the most famous fadista: Amália Rodrigues, whose remains rest in the nearby National Pantheon.
The building also houses a documentation center, a school offering Portuguese guitar courses, an auditorium that regularly hosts events, and a café. From time to time, special activities are organized for visitors.
Fado in the World
The museum is ideal for those who want to explore this musical genre in depth, its expressions and emotions, its meaning to the world, and its impact on history — not only Portuguese history, but international history as well.
The museum has seen a rise in visitors since Fado, as a musical genre, was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list.
If you want to visit other museums celebrating Portuguese traditions, we recommend ones such as the Azulejo Museum and if you were captivated by Amália, you can visit the Casa Museo Amalia Rodrigues.
