Estrela
Everyday, authentic life in a local neighborhood.
Estrela
Estrela is one of the main neighborhoods that make up central Lisbon. This is where you'll find the São Bento Presidential Palace, the Jardim da Estrela, the Basílica da Estrela, and the Assembly of the Republic.
In the 18th century it was home to the Portuguese nobility, and to this day it still retains grand historic houses and small palaces.

It is primarily a residential neighborhood, and with no nearby metro stations, it remains quieter and more local than the rest of the city center's districts.

Jardim da Estrela is its most visited spot. It is a park created in 1842 inspired by the English Romantic style. It has plenty of shade, an outdoor terrace, kiosks, playgrounds, and two duck-filled lakes. Perfect for a leisurely stroll if you visit Lisbon with kids.
Campo de Ourique
Just above the Estrela neighborhood lies Campo de Ourique, an area rarely visited by tourists where locals gather at cafés, children walk to school, and restaurants serve traditional food to their guests.
Here you will find the Campo de Ourique Market, one of the most pleasant municipal markets in the city. You can buy fresh produce and Portuguese specialties to take away, or sit down and eat at its food stalls. Highly recommended.
Getting there
You can get there by tram 28E or tram 25E.
