National Museum of Ancient Art
The National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon holds a vast collection of Portuguese and foreign paintings, from the 12th to the 19th century.
It is located a couple of kilometers from the Praça do Comércio. Its proximity to the Tagus river and the port area gives it a pleasant setting and beautiful views.
In addition to paintings, the museum displays various objects of fine and decorative arts, including Portuguese, Chinese, and Japanese ceramics, as well as textiles and furniture.
It has a library specializing in art history, with an emphasis on painting, design, printmaking, decorative arts, architecture, art criticism, conservation, and restoration. It also features a pleasant restaurant on a terrace overlooking the Tagus.
