Christ the King of Lisbon
Christ the King of Lisbon
At the highest point of Almada, a town directly across from Lisbon, and commanding a view of the 25 de Abril Bridge, stands a great statue of Christ the King.

The monument was erected in 1959 in honor of Portugal's non-involvement in World War II.
The Lisbon statue stands 28 meters tall on a 75-meter pedestal that houses a chapel. In 2007, the "Alta Cross" was also added — a large cross from the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora de Fátima.
Beside the monument, in addition to the view of Lisbon, the 14 Stations of the Cross of Jesus are represented. Each one displays the corresponding words from the Gospel, serving as an exercise in meditation and prayer.
You will also find religious relics, rooms with paintings, a gift shop, and the chapel Capela dos Confidentes do Coração de Jesus.

Visiting the Cristo Rei Sanctuary
There is an elevator to reach the top of the monument and enjoy breathtaking views from above.
The view from here is magnificent, and the site is visited by tens of thousands of people every year — both locals and foreigners come to admire the statue as well as the stunning viewpoint.
